“They divide my clothes among them, and cast lots for my garment.” (Psalm 22:19 NIV)
Have you ever felt like you were being taken advantage of or that someone wanted what you had more than they wanted you? Recently, after learning someone seemed to be more interested in what we could add to their ministry, I saw something in this scripture that really spoke to me and let me know I was in good company.
As I read about the Romans soldiers casting lots to render a decision about Jesus clothes and garment, I felt the Lord showed me something I had not seen before. It looked like the soldiers wanted what Jesus had more than who He really was. Wow!
I began to ponder, Lord, have I done that to You? Is it possible I have done that to others? Only You know the heart and You tell us it is deceitful and who can know it. Lord, help us to allow You to search our hearts and make them like Yours, really caring about people and not so much about ourselves and what we can get from others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
