“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.” Psalm 90:17 KJV
One Monday, while thinking about all I needed to do and facing technical challenges with my new car, my email, and my laptop, I found myself feeling somewhat overwhelmed. On Tuesday, while out running errands, I said to God, “Lord, I’m feeling so overwhelmed. I think I might need a new Bible study.” I walked into the Christian book store and found a new study entitled, A Woman Overwhelmed by Hayley DeMarco. Awed by God, I couldn’t wait to delve into the Word and see what God wanted to say to me.
As I’ve been studying, I’m realizing more and more how I allow myself to be overwhelmed instead of allowing Him to overwhelm me with Himself. It takes being in His presence to see what He’d like to do, not just to get instructions on what I think I need to do. My first priority is to be minister to Him.
We can all be overwhelmed with so many things in this life, but God desires to overwhelm us with Himself. One of my favorite verses from scripture has been about Gideon, “But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon Himself and took possession of Him…” (Judges 6:34 AMPC) Lord, thank You for reminding me of this and please help us to focus on You and less on what we think we need to do. In Your name, amen.
